Dear Reader,
The type of book I read, stick’s with you just by reading the 1st 3 pages. It’s a book called The Recruit By: Robert Muchamore. I’ll tell you the truth, I’m not much of a reader but once I started reading this book, it was like reading was something totally different than what I had thought it was. This book always brings up something new and is full of action!! Though out this book I’ve always felt that I can relate with James because he had shared the same type of connections.

It is about the young 11 year old boy named James that does nothing more that get into trouble. Since him and this sister Lauren had been recently taken to an orphanage. The alcoholic father takes Lauren and leave’s James behind as if he was nothing more than a piece of scum. So later he join’s this spy type thing that’s called “CHERUB.” Where you go on different adventures trying to catch bad people such as drug dealers, burglars, and just well, bad people.
“Do you like chicken?” Mac asked.
“Sure,” James said.
They were sitting in a tiny office with a desk in between them. The only thing on the desk was a metal cage with a live chicken in it.
“Would you like to eat this chicken?”
“It’s alive.”
“I can see that James. Would you like to kill it?:
“No way!”
“Why not?”
“It’s cruel.”
“James are you saying you want to become a vegetarian?”
“No.”
“If you think it’s cruel to kill a chicken, why are you happy to eat it?”
“I don’t know,” James said. “I’m 12 years old, I eat what gets stuck in front of me.”
“James I want you to kill the chicken.”
“This was dumb test. What does this prove?” James asked.
James couldn’t think of any more arguments and felt that if he had killed the chicken, he would have at least passed one test.
This passage pretty much explains what they go though though-out this whole book, having to take so many risks, going though so many hard and fierce obstacles. Robert Muchamore has very strong writing. No matter what he says, you can always make a picture in your head as if it were a movie! I have a great feeling that all his books will be amazing! In most of the book he write out like very boring and then BAM something so unexpected happens, which is why I keep reading, I always need to see what happens next! Your always waiting to see what’s going to come next!
I think all the stunts and experiences that James is going through can be a good connection to the world because, if there was an actual place like CHERUB just for kids, I think it would be great because it would give a chance to all the smart kids in the world to join something were they can do it all there self’s. One connection to myself is of course James and Lauren because in their life with them both being so young they go though so much in so little time, which is kind of like my case.

I think once I finish this book I will continue to read the whole series and after that find books that are similar to Robert. I would recommend this book to anyone that like a lot of action and has a taste for excitement! Then again I would rate this book at about PG-13 because of the vulgarity in it. So make sure your ok with that. Other than that little bump it’s a GREAT book!! If you read it, hope you enjoy it!!
Sincerely,
Ashleigh
